Goals

The major goals of the Center are to:

A. complete a cross-sectional longitudinal study that utilizes electroencephalographic (EEG), evoked related potentials (ERP) and psychometric test data to:

1. Identify brain wave patterns of low versus expert readers from age 11 years through adulthood.

2. Identify specific instructional approaches that significantly contribute to increased brain efficiency and reading achievement.

B. produce and validate:

1. a self-administered, computer-driven reading assessment tool for adolescents and adults that links to various teaching strategies.

2. a system for generating individual reports of learner strengths.

3. an instructional strategies 'manual' including:

a. first person vignettes from teachers of adult learners, and

b. specific instructional strategies for teacher use.
