Lawrence Cheng

Lawrence Cheng was born in the Philippines and lived there through high school. He then attended MIT, completing undergraduate and graduate degrees in electrical engineering, with a concentration in economics. Most of Cheng’s career has been related to some kind of technology, and he is fascinated not only with pure math and science but also with technology's impact on society.

At IBM’s T.J. Watson Research Labs, Cheng worked with supercomputer graphics and high-bandwidth networks. In 1993 he helped Creative Labs introduce the first consumer-level 3D graphics accelerator, which became the new “must have” feature of personal computers.

In 2000 Cheng moved to the D.C. area to work at XM Satellite Radio and helped launch the country's first commercial satellite radio service. After running his own consulting company for 4 years, he joined GridPoint, a local startup focused on energy efficiency.

Most recently he has ventured into the real estate  business working with McEnearney Associates of Arlington, Virginia.
