POST-DOCTORAL POSITIONS in Neuroscience / Biophysics, Krasnow Institute of Advanced Study at George Mason University
George Mason University, Krasnow Institute for Advanced Study invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research position available immediately, to contribute to ongoing cutting-edge research in computational systems biology/neuroscience, funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) through the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism.
The initial focus is on the signaling pathways underlying learning and synaptic plasticity in the basal ganglia. The overall project involves a variety of techniques including computer simulations, and software development, as well as close collaboration between modelers and experimentalists. The incumbent will join the Center for Neural Informatics, Structures, and Plasticity -- an interdisciplinary, dynamic and creative research group at George Mason University's Krasnow Institute for Advanced Study, located in northern Virginia (15 miles west of Washington, D.C.). The successful applicant will have office space, a new computer and a salary on the NIH postdoctoral scale supplemented by excellent state employee benefits.
All highly motivated candidates with recent Ph.D.s in relevant fields (e.g., biology, computer science, physics, bioinformatics, engineering) are encouraged to apply. Research experience with programming languages (e.g., C++, JAVA), modelling packages (e.g., XPPAUT, Genesis) and knowledge of diffusion and stochastic processes is highly desirable.
